I presented Adobe Illustrator techniques to Detroit ACM Siggraph this last Monday. The night was focused on digital illustration and I presented with Walter Lowe III. There were a lot of great questions about using Illustrator. Walter Lowe III showed us his book illustration methods and also a 2d/3d animation he created. Along with doing Photoshop illustration, he is also a Maya and Zbrush character 3d artist. His website is located at: http://www.walterloweiii.com/
Detroit ACM Siggraph has Jim Jackson, an animator on RIO, coming to speak on May 13th. All the details are at: http://wp.siggraph.org/detroit/
The site overhaul I mentioned a while back is online at melissapatton.net. The blog color has changed to match the new design.
What’s new on the site?
*The site now links to 14 sites were my vector, jpg, and 3d stock models are available
*I’ve added links to specific categories of illustrations (elegant backgrounds, design elements, holiday & event, characters, and food & drink items)
*The site has a separate page for 3d stock models and where they are sold
*The main page shows a featured image and direct links to where it can be purchased
*The blog is now accessible from the main site, with associated navigation, at melissapatton.net/blog.html
I’ll be adding more links to collections and the portfolio as well as making other small changes over time.

Veer Marketplace is a new portion of the Veer site that offers microstock images. It’s in the early stages of opening. Veer has done a great job of transitioning us new sellers onto the site and has a very nice seller side interface. I have 310 images (mostly vectors) available with them so far with more to come. It will be a little while before they have individual portfolio links ready. For right now I’m linking to the overall marketplace collection.
I’ve got new images going up including wedding backgrounds, floral grunge backgrounds, gift bags, sun & moon backgrounds, interior scenes, and bird images.
Here are some the current total images:
Shutterstock (1568 items – jpg and vectors are seperated)
Dreamstime (592 items – vector & jpg are displayed together)
iStockPhoto (62 items – all vectors)
Stockxpert (555 items – mostly jpg)

New food and character stock vectors now online.
This month I’ve started sketching out a site overhaul. I’m planning to integrate this blog into the main site, setup a section for stock illustrations, and reformat the portfolio section. Right now, I’m in the information architecture and sketch layout phase. The new version will have clear information about where I sell stock and what’s available.

I’ve started a vector gallery at VectorNexus. VectorNexus is a new stock site that has just started building its artist base. I have 101 vectors on the site ranging from birthday cakes to abstract backgrounds.
The link directly to my vectors is: RandomWay at VectorNexus
The main site is: VectorNexus.com

One of the curious things about microstock is selling images on multiple sites. Most of the images I’ve posted here are available at several sites. The formats, licensing, and price points vary per site. Also, depending on the sites submission procedure, images go up at different times.
Shutterstock – 1321 images – vector & jpg – (site separates jpg & vector files)
Dreamstime - 508 images – vector & jpg
Stockxpert - 450 images – jpg format & some vectors
123RF - 469 images – jpg format
I’ve started building collections at iStockPhoto, Canstock, BigstockPhoto, and Fotolia, currently each is under 200 images.
When I put up new images they show up at Stockxpert and 123RF first. Dreamstime updates with the longest wait time. To keep a balance, I announce updates when they appear at Shutterstock.
It’s been a busy year so far. I’ve added 140 new vectors at Shutterstock.
The latest are Easter egg character scenes. This is a set of six vector images including the character at play, in a snow scene, and isolated on a solid background. Each image is available as a jpg and an eps 8 vector.
Egg with bunny ears vector series:
Other new vectors include new black design elements, leaf and sphere backgrounds, and dark glam abstract backgrounds:
